The iWork Jobsite functions in a similar way to other online job sites, with the exception that it specifically targets Aboriginal people.

iWork is compatible with most job posting software including Broadbean, eQuest and JobAdder.

iWork improves on the functionality of other job sites as it is the only job board where an employer can advertise a job nationally in a single step.

Most of iWork’s success comes from the way we have harnessed the power of social media to engage with Indigenous job hunters all over Australia.

We advertise every position FREE across our range of social media platforms, which combined have a total audience of 14,000 people.

Social media networking sites are a particularly powerful tool for reaching Aboriginal job hunters, as this image of Facebook screenshots gives testament to. The numbers highlighted, shows that over 300,000 people were reached for this particular job, which was for entry-level rail workers.

Founded in 2018, Hi Vis Traffic WA is a 100% Indigenous owned and operated Traffic Management Company, with a minimum of 90% Indigenous workforce at all times.

Hi Vis Traffic WA is a newcomer to the WA traffic management sector, delivering our unique services with an Indigenous labour force, within the scope of our own experience and capacity. Whilst we might be viewed as the new kids on the block, we come with a wealth of experience in managing Indigenous workforces, mitigating risk, managing contracts in the construction industry and have the expertise of traffic management industry stalwarts as our internal advisors.

While we strive for a 100% Indigenous workforce, we acknowledge that some management and supervisory roles are required to be filled with experienced people who have the capability to transfer their skills and knowledge onto our Indigenous workforce, who aspire to become managers and supervisors.

Our team are committed to providing a top-quality traffic management service with a social conscience. We want to make a difference to Indigenous unemployment outcomes, and to ensure the safety of our employees and the public.

Hi Vis Traffic WA was established when the Aboriginal founder, Joanne Pellew, recognised a labour market gap: Indigenous employment targets were increasing across the infrastructure and construction sectors, but uptake of Indigenous people was either too slow or non-existent.

To help these sectors meet their Indigenous engagement targets with relative ease, Joanne founded the business to allow both experienced and entry-level Indigenous traffic controllers a path to employment with a continued career path into other areas of the construction industry. As Joanne has a direct connection to the local Indigenous community who are looking for work, her ability to assist Project Managers on civil works projects to meet their Indigenous obligations is second to none.

Hi Vis Traffic services all of Western Australia, providing traffic management services such as:

  • Major and minor intersection works
  • Dual-lane reconstructions and lane closures
  • Traffic light installations
  • Curb reconstructions
  • Working with drainage & kerbing crews
  • Working with road maintenance crews
  • Working with road-specific contractors such as concreters and asphalters
  • Working with streetscaping crews
  • Streetscape upgrades, landscape & pruning works
  • Road reconstruction
  • Emergency call-out work (e.g. flooding)
  • One-way to two-way lane conversions
  • Road upgrading and preparation works
  • Special public events (e.g. Stadium events and large sporting occasions, Skyworks, Christmas Pageant, ANZAC Day parade, Red Bull Airshow, City to Surf, Carols by Candlelight)
  • Regional road works

ConnectBid is a true B2B software solution for those Buyers who are finding it difficult to find, access and purchase from ‘Contract-Ready’ Indigenous Businesses.

ConnectBid has been developed over the last couple of years. It was identified shortly after the Federal Government’s Indigenous Procurement Policy was released that there needed to be a trusted e-procurement system, specifically for Indigenous Businesses. Whilst we have directories that are listed in RAPs, Indigenous Engagement Plans, Procurement Policies etc, there was no platform that Corporate and Business Buyers could access to procure from ‘Contract-Ready’ Indigenous Businesses. ConnectBid is the only Indigenous Specific e-procurement software system in Australia.

ConnectBid is easy to use, has a contemporary look, has live data functions, can produce any amount of reports and most importantly gives Buyers direct access to pre-qualified Indigenous Businesses across all industry sectors. Therefore, taking all of the hard work out of this hard-to-navigate niche space.

Kooey Australia was originally founded in 2005. It was a swimwear label that had humble beginnings in Broome, where Joanne had first started making swimwear for her young daughter at the time. As Joanne was connected to a large extended family, it wasn’t long before all the other young girls in the family wanted the same swimwear that Joanne’s daughter was proudly wearing. Then her daughter’s friends starting asking for the same swimwear. Pretty soon, Joanne knew she was onto something.

Joanne then began a production line at home making swimwear and was selling the pieces on Ebay, which were going to buyers all over Australia. The label grew over the next few years, was getting a lot of press and eventually made it to be the official swimwear sponsor of the Miss Universe finals in the USA. The first and only Australian swimwear label to ever do so.

The label had an intent to find and elevate undiscovered Indigenous models to put them on the professional model scene. The fabric prints and swimwear designs were all Joanne’s original designs. The prints were inspired by the natural elements of the Kimberley landscape where Joanne spent 23 years and the designs were always originals which seemed to be cutting edge but very wearable.

After some challenging times at the height of Kooey’s reign, the journey went down an unexpected path but now that Joanne has full control of her label, there is an exciting development for future plans. Joanne will replace the swimwear and resort wear side of the label with a range of stylish homewares such as bedding, statement cushions, towels, mats, wall prints and the like which will be available within the coming months via our online store.

Watch this space for more announcements as the products become available when the site goes live.

Great to see training directly connected to a job. For to many years Aboriginal people have been trained with no guaranteed job at the end. Keep up the good work Joanne and the team.

Mark Anderson

This sounds like a fantastic initiative, congratulations. Looking forward to seeing this expand to more major cities and hopefully with employers looking to find talent above transactional roles! There are many thousands of our Mob with professional qualifications and experience wanting Indigenous centric roles beyond the regular offers. Wishing you continued success!

Matthew Compton

Well done Joanne. A lot of hard work, but highly rewarding. My nephew works as a trades trainer attached to a school in an Aboriginal community in remote NT. I visited there recently and saw some great things there he was doing to build skills and a career path for both boys and girls so they can get into a trade with local mines. Small steps but they give hope and offer a future to indigenous people. Bravo!

Owen Erglis

Congratulations Joanne. You can be very proud of what you have achieved. It is a reflection on you and your Company. It also speaks volumes about the many indigenous labour hire contractors that represent Ochre Workforce Solutions at the cold face on a daily basis.

Mark Parnell

Self-funded tech platforms help create the conditions for change. The number of Aboriginals participating in the workforce is expected to almost double by 2026 and new digital solutions are being created to promote employment, communication and diverse workplaces by Indigenous entrepreneurs. These game-changers have been flying under the radar, but gaining traction quickly as they launch their services to the world. Great article highlighting this emerging sector Joanne, and congrats on the wild success of iWork!
